This year at MWT, the playwright has been placed squarely at front and centre. In an effort to support our writers at every stage of the writing process, this year’s development program includes events such as the recent 2018 Script Development workshop (La Mama Courthouse, 13/8). This was an excellent opportunity for writers whose work will be presented at our Season 2018 productions – Six Degrees in Melbourne (Nov 12 – 25) and The Melbourne Monologues (Nov 26 – Dec 2) – to hear their scripts being professionally read in a theatrical setting, and to gain the opinions and suggestions of the shows’ directors and actors in the feedback sessions that followed each reading. At the Six Degrees in Melbourne session, co-director Mazz Ryan led the script readings and convened the ensuing discussion, while director Elizabeth Walley oversaw the workshopping of the scripts selected for The Melbourne Monologues. Both writers and artists left the 2018 Script Development workshop with a better understanding of how these scripts might be brought to life on stage, in what promises to be a high quality season of theatre. Tickets on sale in October!
Thank you to our wonderful MWT actors (pictured below) for their participation in this important workshop.
