A Flower For Moses Melbourne Writers Theatre Clare Mendes

The first show in our PAGE TO STAGE 2015 season was The Agreement by MWT member Clare Mendes.

Directed by Elizabeth Walley, The Agreement ran from 7th – 18th October at La Mama Courthouse, and featured EMMA COX as Mathilda, CIUME LOCHNER as Cindy and ALEC GILBERT as Guru Bob.

A stark set construction by Ian Cairncross, combined with artful lighting by Mazz Ryan, created a dramatic desert backdrop for Cox, Lochner and Gilbert to bring to life Mendes’ first full-length play for the stage – a story of female friendships, the rivalries that often shape them and the silent, destructive “agreements” on which even the closest friendships can turn.

The Agreement attracted strong audiences, with 271 people filling the Courthouse during the two-week season. A talented range of front-of-house staff, highlighted by the versatility of Kyle Roberts, provided audiences with an immersive experience that began upon entering the theatre foyer, which was styled to represent a bus waiting room.

In keeping with the MWT policy that has governed each of its seasons since 1982, The Agreement was selected for inclusion in the 2015 season by an independent dramaturg.
