The judges’ reports are in. After reading through a record pile of anonymous submissions for our 2016 season of PAGE TO STAGE, dramaturges Emilie Collyer and Elizabeth Walley have made their selections, which were officially announced at La Mama Courthouse on 4th July.
The new full-length play, to be performed from 24th October – 6th November, is The World Without Birds by Christine Croyden.
The monologues selected for The Melbourne Monologues, to be performed from 7th – 13th November, are
* The Man in the Moon by Louise Baxter * The Letter by Mazz Ryan * The Visit by Bruce Shearer * Tokyo Love Hotel by Christine Croyden * How Does Your Garden Grow? by Alison Knight * Humpster Dumpster by Bruce Shearer.
Emilie Collyer applauded the diverse themes, complexity and richness evident in the full-length plays submitted, while Elizabeth Walley remarks:
“The final six monologues selected have been chosen for the quality of the writing, the dramatic and theatrical possibilities inherent in the work, and the ease with which they sit together in a single programme … My congratulations to everyone who submitted their writing for consideration. I applaud you all and urge you to keep developing your skills, participate in our monthly play readings, submit again and support both the work of the Melbourne Writers’ Theatre and your writing colleagues, by coming to see the show … theatre cannot exist without an audience!”
